hometown restyling 40 years
Built on Vision, Craftsmanship, and Community and Now Proud to Be Employee Owned

In 1985, Hometown Restyling Founder Wayne Winn had a vision.

He didn’t want to build just another contracting company. As he later shared, “We wanted to be different than the normal home-improvement company.”

That simple idea became the foundation for what would officially become Hometown Restyling in 1986. And today, 40 years later, that commitment to raising the bar is still what sets us apart.

As we celebrate four decades in business, we’re honoring the people, projects, and principles that have made us Eastern Iowa’s trusted, full-service residential remodeler.

From a Rented Shop to Eastern Iowa’s #1 Choice

It all started in a rented shop in Hiawatha, where the company operated for seven years before building its showroom and office in 1993; a location we proudly still call home.

From those early days to now, we’ve grown to:

Most importantly, we’ve grown without losing sight of who we are.

A New Chapter: 100% Employee Ownership and a New CEO

As we enter our 40th year, we’re proud to announce two  of the most important milestones in our history:

  • Transitioning to  100% employee ownership through an Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESOP). As far as we know, we are the only employee-owned residential remodeler in Eastern Iowa.
  • Naming a new CEO who has risen within the company over 17 years.

So why did we move to employee ownership?

Employee ownership reinforces what has always defined us:

Friendly. Knowledgeable. Local. Proven.

When you work with Hometown Restyling, you’re not working with out-of-town crews. You’re working with owners. With neighbors. With people who have a personal stake in doing the job right.

“Employee ownership means people — not shareholders — drive decisions. When customers choose us, they are investing in their community and their neighbors.” President Tom Casey

So why did we name a new CEO?

In 2020, the company evolved its ownership group to include five local owners who together have 150 years of experience at Hometown Restyling. President Tom Casey, Sunroom Manager Brad Winn, Window/Door Manager Tim Casey, then Sales Manager David Wageman, and Marketing Director David Wilslef. For the past five years, the owners were on a mission to ensure Hometown Restyling would not only hit its 40th anniversary, but would also set a strong course to take the company into the next 40.

One key step happened In December 2025, when Dave Wageman, who joined the company in 2009, was named CEO. Wageman worked his way up in the company from project manager to sales manager to CEO. In his new role, he’ll have the privilege of having the other local owners transition to a core leadership team allowing the management structure to remain in place, ensuring continuity in operations, strategy, and customer relationships.

HTR Dave Wageman

Dave Wageman said:

“It’s an honor to step into this role at such an exciting time. Transitioning ownership to our employees protects the culture we have all built and empowers the people who have made our success possible. It ensures we remain locally owned and operated and committed to serving our customers in Eastern Iowa for generations to come.”

That continued success comes from knowing who you are: We specialize in residential remodeling.

We don’t build new homes. We don’t do commercial work. We don’t try to be everything to everyone.

We focus on what we know best: windows, doors, siding, sunrooms, outdoor living, kitchens, and bathrooms. And delivering them with expert installation and full-service support.

As we like to say: “We don’t do landscaping and we don’t do roofing, but pretty much everything in between.”

Full-Service. In-House. Built to Last.

One of the things that has always set Hometown Restyling apart is our commitment to keeping work in-house.

  • We install with trained employees.
  • We manage permitting.
  • We maintain an in-house service department.
  • We stand behind our work with lifetime workmanship warranties.

Very few companies in our industry can say that. And after 40 years, standing behind our products “today and tomorrow” isn’t just a tagline: it’s a promise that you can put stock in.  We’re just a phone call (or short drive) away.

We plan to be here not only for this project, but for the next remodel. And the one after that.

What 40 Years Means to the People Behind the Work

Longevity doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because of people (designers, installers, project managers, administrators) who believe in doing the job right. Every time.

When asked what Hometown Restyling is really about, one of our designers put it simply:

“Hometown is really an atmosphere to create a project that is seamless from beginning to end, so we can handle everything and take the load off of a customer’s mind, and handle it for them.”

Remodeling your home is a big deal. And it’s not just a big project. Sure, there are decisions, permits, timelines, and details that can quickly become stressful. But we know that what you’re really looking for is not just a product, but a beautiful space in which to live your life. And that’s where your focus should be. For 40 years, we’ve been committed to making your dream homes a reality and to making the process as seamless as possible.

Which is why we continue to expand and evolve our services. Adding a dedicated service department, home maintenance program, handyman services, and more means that we hear what homeowners in Eastern Iowa are asking for. And we’re delivering it, year after year.

As our designer explained:

“A lot of customers are very overwhelmed when they’re going to do a remodel project… I think they look at the fact that we are full service and that we’re going to kind of take that load off of them.”

That commitment to handling the details, from design and permitting to installation and service, has defined Hometown Restyling for four decades. And it will continue to define us as we learn and evolve over the next 40 years.

A Culture That Feels Like Family

Forty years in business also means countless careers built here. Employees consistently describe the Hometown Restyling as:

  • Trustworthy
  • Fair
  • Committed
  • Friendly
  • Personable
  • Exciting

When asked to describe the culture, the answer was immediate:

“It’s very family-oriented. You feel like the people that you work with are part of your extended family.”

That culture matters is important to us and is reinforced now that we are a 100% employee-owned company. Employee ownership is a mindset that has always been at the core of Hometown Restyling.

It means:

  • Every installer is invested.
  • Every designer thinks long-term.
  • Every project matters.

That celebration of ownership has helped shape the company’s steady evolution over the years.

Built on Trust. Proven Over Time.

Over the past four decades, thousands of homeowners have trusted us with projects both large and small. As one customer shared:

“The project was completed in a very timely manner. There were no surprises as to what was included in the bid. We received everything just as was agreed upon.”

Another wrote:

“We are extremely pleased and would HIGHLY recommend Hometown Restyling. Good people, Good Job!”

That consistency, fairness, professionalism, and follow-through are what has enabled us to stick around our beloved Eastern Iowa for 40 years.

Growing Through Challenges, Together

In 2020, following the derecho and in the midst of the pandemic, demand for trusted local remodelers surged. Homeowners continue to desire:

  • A local partner
  • Clear communication
  • High-quality products
  • A team that will stand behind the work

Being 100% employee-owned strengthens that commitment. When you’re an owner, you think long-term. You think about impact. You think about excellence. And you treat each and every home as if it were your own.

40 Years. Thank You, Eastern Iowa

This milestone isn’t just ours. It belongs to the homeowners who welcomed us into their homes. And the employees who built careers here. And the families who referred friends and neighbors. And the community organizations, schools, and teams we’ve proudly supported.

To say thank you, we’re celebrating 40 years by giving back.

In 2026, we tripled our Home Makeover Sweepstakes  That means we’re giving away $30,000 in the form of two Home Makeover Sweepstakes. The sweepstakes will give homeowners a chance to win one of two $15,000 dream remodeling projects.

Whether it’s replacing old windows, remodeling a kitchen or bath, or adding a deck or sunroom, this is our way of saying: Thank you for trusting us for four decades.

Evolving for the Future Without Losing Who We Are

The company today looks different from how it did even six years ago. There’s new technology (almost every day it seems), stronger processes, greater visibility and answers to your questions, and expanded teams.

But the heart remains the same.

  • Customer-focused
  • Family-oriented
  • Goal-driven
  • Full-service

Those values have carried Hometown Restyling from a rented shop in Hiawatha to a 100% employee-owned leader in Eastern Iowa remodeling. And they are what will carry us into the next 40 years.

The Next 40 Years Start Now

Through the last four decades, one thing has remained constant:

We are committed to doing things the right way for our Eastern Iowa community

We’re proud of the past. And we’re excited about the future.

And we’re immensely grateful to be Eastern Iowa’s trusted residential remodeling partner, now and into the future.

If you’re ready to start your next project, we’re here. Just like we’ve always been.
