HTR Owners 2024

Introducing the Fab Five. That’s what we like to call the local owners at Hometown Restyling. When you talk to Tom, Tim, Brad, and the two Daves, as they are known, the first thing you notice is how friendly, approachable, and knowledgeable they all are. They are the company’s heart and soul, having risen through the ranks using their unique talents in master building, craftsmanship, construction, and financing.

Each comes from small-town beginnings in Iowa and all five place a high value on living, working, and building relationships with friends, family, and customers in the local community. They also share a passion for working with customers and bringing a smile and a great sense of humor to everything they do.

We hope you enjoy learning a little more about each owner and seeing how their personalities and pride in the community have come together over decades of working together to drive this legacy residential remodeling company into its next chapter.

Tom Casey: The Visionary

President

HTR Tom Casey

Tom’s journey with Hometown Restyling started over 30 years ago, but his roots in Iowa run even deeper. Growing up in the small town of Coggon, Tom learned early on the importance of hard work. Now, after living in Cedar Rapids for more than 40 years, he’s not only a proud homeowner but also gladly serves on the HBA board.

Tom’s story with Hometown Restyling began in an unexpected way. Before he was an owner, he worked for a company that sold “customer satisfaction checks.” Customers were contacted from many different businesses. Hometown Restyling’s customers consistently had the highest ratings. “That’s when I knew this was a company with integrity,” says Tom. In May of 1990, Tom officially joined the team and hasn’t looked back since.

As an owner, Tom’s goal has always been to instill a sense of pride in every single employee, a pride he feels deeply. He wants everyone at Hometown Restyling to feel as honored as he does when they tell people where they work. And when he reads through GuildQuality reviews that mention how a team member went the extra mile for a homeowner, that’s when Tom knows the company’s mission is being fulfilled.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“The whole process was easy. Having Jim come to our house to look over everything and give us our best options helped us make a decision. Thrilled the installation took only one day and the results are amazing! We are happy to have a properly insulated door and window.” ~Riverside, Iowa

But work is just one part of Tom’s life. When he’s not making sure clients are thrilled with their homes, you can find him “up to something.” Whether it’s playing cards, cycling around the neighborhood, or challenging friends to a game of pickleball, Tom’s energy is infectious. Staying active is a big part of who he is. He and his wife Tracy are always on the move, enjoying the outdoors and the community that they’ve been a part of for so long. Tom and Tracy have a blended family with 3 adult children and 2 grandchildren they enjoy spending time with.

When asked what he wanted to be growing up, his response was classic: “Taller, thinner, better looking.” That’s just who Tom is—someone who will tell it to you like it is.

Tim Casey: The Master Builder

Window & Door Manager

HTR Tim Casey

Tim’s story, like his brother Tom’s, begins on a farm outside of Coggon, Iowa, where he grew up surrounded by the values of small-town life. After graduating high school, Tim didn’t waste any time diving into the construction industry, working with his hands to build houses and pole buildings. He’s been building ever since.

Tim moved to the Ryan area in 1992, with his wife Angie. They’ve built a beautiful life together, raising three children and welcoming seven grandchildren (with number eight on the way!). For Tim, family is everything, and he brings that same family-oriented mindset to the workplace. It’s no wonder that one of his proudest moments as an owner of Hometown Restyling is an everyday occurrence – the pride he feels in what the company achieves together.

When it comes to Hometown Restyling, Tim is all about quality and reputation. In fact, he doesn’t believe craftsmanship is just one grand story or project; it’s the little things the team does every day to ensure each project meets the highest standards. For Tim, the best part of his job is seeing that finished product, knowing the work speaks for itself.

His connection to the team goes beyond the day-to-day work, though. One of his favorite events is the annual Kernels baseball game, where everyone can relax and visit outside of work. For him, it’s a fun outing and a reflection of the family atmosphere that makes Hometown Restyling feel like home. That’s why it’s also no surprise it’s Tim and his fun, laid-back attitude that helps keep things light, his fellow owners even dub him the “Class Clown.”

When he’s not working, you can usually find Tim at the golf course, watching an Iowa football game, or playing cards. And while many may not know this, Tim also loves to use his smoker, showing off his skills in the backyard.

As someone who has always worked in construction, Tim felt drawn to the culture of Hometown Restyling from the beginning. He appreciated the smaller company size and the feeling of being part of something personal. Over the years, his goal as an owner has been to continue developing that professionalism while keeping the company’s family-oriented roots intact.

Brad Winn “Winn”: The Craftsman

Sunroom Manager

HTR Brad Winn

For Brad, life has always revolved around family, farming, and craftsmanship. Growing up on a farm outside Walker, Iowa, Brad built a work ethic that followed him into his career. He’s now been part of the Hometown Restyling family for an impressive 36 years. Whether he’s on the job or at home, Brad’s commitment to doing things right has never wavered.

Brad and his wife, Gail, have called Walker home for the past 20 years. Together, they’ve raised two wonderful daughters, Shaina, a Labor and Delivery Nurse, and Brenna, who’s carving out her own career in Kansas City. And let’s not forget Mr. Winston, their mini Bernedoodle, who Brad proudly calls “the most affectionate dog ever.” Family is everything to Brad, and it’s no surprise that it’s a big part of why he’s so enthusiastic about helping homeowners create spaces they love.

Brad’s journey with Hometown Restyling began decades ago. His brother started the business from scratch, and Brad has been there every step of the way, watching it grow into a thriving, successful company. Over the years, Brad’s exceptional carpentry skills have helped him improve countless homes and teach his team the importance of quality workmanship. For him, every project is personal—he treats each home as if it were his own, ensuring the highest level of care goes into every detail.

One story that perfectly illustrates Brad’s dedication to quality came during a project for a retired couple with an elderly dog. The homeowners were concerned about their dog’s ability to navigate the new deck, fearing she would slip on the surface. Without hesitation, Brad and his team took the leftover deck materials and built a custom ramp for the dog, a surprise that left the homeowners in tears of joy. It’s these thoughtful touches that make Brad’s work so meaningful to the people he serves.

When Brad’s not working, you can often find him riding his motorcycle or side-by-side, enjoying the outdoors. He also still spends plenty of time at the family farm, another passion he’s carried with him throughout his life. Few people know that in addition to his long-standing career in home improvement, Brad’s heart has always been in veterinary work. If he hadn’t become a builder and business owner, he’s sure he would have followed that path.

Dave Wilslef “Wils”: The Numbers Guy

Marketing Director

HTR Dave Wilslef

For Dave, life in a small town helped shape his values, but it was Cedar Rapids that became his home. Growing up in Wyoming, Iowa, Dave enjoyed the simplicity of rural life before making the move to Cedar Rapids 35 years ago. Despite the big move, Wyoming never left him, as it was shared small town stories that helped him get to know his best friend and wife, Casey. The pair recently celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary by renewing their vows the same way all small-towners do—in Vegas with Elvis!

Dave’s career with Hometown Restyling started early. At just 19 years old, he took a telemarketing job with the company, drawn in by the promise of $5 an hour—a step up from minimum wage. That was back in February of 1990, and what began as a part-time gig turned into a career spanning decades. And today, he’s proud to reflect on his journey from those early days to becoming an owner of the company.

For Dave, Hometown Restyling is like family. He loves the close-knit, fun environment that the company fosters. “We get to know each other personally, and that makes the workplace so much fun. I’ve never woken up and said, ‘I don’t feel like going to work today.”

And that’s exactly the kind of energy he wants to maintain. His goal as an owner has always been to make Hometown the best place to work—a relaxed, fun atmosphere with great benefits and even better people.

While Dave may be a people person, he’s also a numbers guy at heart. Marketing is his favorite part of the job, and he approaches it like fishing—trying different tactics and seeing which ones yield the best results. “It’s fulfilling when it works well,” he says, always eager to test new strategies and find the right mix that connects with customers.

When he’s not crunching numbers or brainstorming new marketing techniques, you’ll likely find Dave grilling, smoking meats, or “Jeepin’.” He’s also an avid sports fan who collects and trades autographed memorabilia. And if you ever get the chance to try one of his steaks, you’re in for a treat!

One thing most customers don’t know about Dave? If he weren’t an owner at Hometown Restyling, he’d love to run his own bar and grill, specializing in, get this, egg rolls. Not your typical egg rolls, though. Dave has big plans for flavors like Big Mac, Philly cheesesteak, and tacos, among others.

Over the years, Dave has witnessed firsthand the artistry that Hometown Restyling delivers. “To this day, I’m still wowed when I see the after photos. The talent these craftsmen and craftswomen have is amazing.”

Despite his respect for the hands-on work his team does, he admits with a laugh that his own wife won’t trust him with a drill!

Dave Wageman “Wags”: The Problem-Solver

Sales Manager

HTR Dave Wageman

Dave’s journey began in the small town of West Branch, Iowa, a place known for its tight-knit community and its most famous resident, President Herbert Hoover. Today, he lives in North Liberty with his “beautiful bride” Alyssa, whom he married in the fall of 2023, and their blended family, including his two kids, Macie and Nolan, and their lively Golden Doodle, Hazel.

Family is at the heart of everything for Dave. His daughter, Macie, is a fun-loving teen who balances being a “girly girl” with her love for sports like volleyball and softball. His son, Nolan, is the brainiac of the family, always armed with dad jokes and a passion for fishing. Whether he’s at one of their sporting events or spending time with Alyssa, Dave is all about making the most of family time. And when he’s not cheering on his kids, you can find him in the stands at Iowa football and basketball games, where he’s a season ticket holder with big plans to visit every Big Ten stadium.

Dave’s love for construction was sparked early. In grade school, he and his best friend dreamed of running their own construction company, inspired by their dads who both worked in the industry. After a few years working on a framing crew out of high school, Dave found his way to Hometown Restyling, drawn to the company’s reputation for quality and its fun, hardworking environment. Meeting the owners at the time, Wayne Winn and Tom, sealed the deal. Dave saw a team that took customer service seriously but knew how to enjoy themselves too—a balance he’s carried with him into his role as an owner today.

His favorite part of the job is meeting with customers and helping them turn their home renovation dreams into reality. Whether it’s a challenging project that other contractors wouldn’t take on or a homeowner’s vision that needs some fine-tuning, Dave loves helping people see their ideas come to life.

Dave is known among his co-owners for going above and beyond. One story that stands out comes from a time when a big storm was on the horizon. Dave went to a customer’s home in the evening, well after business hours, to secure and move materials, ensuring they were safe from the weather. This level of dedication exemplifies his commitment to customer service, making sure every project goes smoothly, no matter the circumstances.

When Dave reflects on the company, Hometown Restyling means “home” in more ways than one. It’s not just a place where he works—it’s a second home where memories are made and where he’s been able to create a supportive environment for employees. He’s especially proud of the times when the team can promote someone into a role they weren’t sure they could handle, and then watch as that person grows into a confident, high-performing leader. Those moments of encouragement are what make Hometown special to Dave.
